RE: Questions Regarding Air Bags???

I have installed air bags. they have individual valves to charge each one.
The bags are firestone but forget the company that made the kit.
I put them on to keep the rig and trailer level and my tv is a heavy duty
truck so the rear axel will take the tt weight with out load weight distribution. I do use anti sway bars that keeps the truck from swaying in most side winds and stable when passed by an eighteen wheeler. The one down side is the rough ride when driving with out the TT. I suppose that could be mitigated if an onboard air compresor were installed so the air bags could deflated when the TT was not in tow, other wise am please with their performance.

RE: Slide Locks

I have a 02 Mallard and it came with locks which I use. I worked with a
fellow who's trailer had a slide out and he didn't use his slide locks,
on one trip his slide came partly out while traveling down the road. So
at least in one instant the sllde did extent while traveling.
I would note if you try to extent the slide with locks installed it doesn't
take much to realize they are in place.

RE: Tongue Jack Lube

I have a Barker #3000 lb jack screw that started to make
a loud grinding noise inside the jack tube.
I removed the drive housing, it is held on with 4 allen
screws, then poured about 1/2 pint of 30 Weight motor oil
into the shaft. The noise stopped and jack worked OK.
The jack instructions tell you not to put oil in the shaft
so as a precautionary measure I replaced the jack screw portion
of the tongue jack.

RE: TT Shocks

I am planning on installing shocks on my TT, so I searched
the internet and found a site,HTTP:/www.shockwarehouse.com
That gave a procedure on how to measure for proper shock length.

RE: Travel trailer shocks

I have done a web search and a forum search and had no results.
E-mailed Monroe Corp. they referred me to the manufacturer which
apparently doesn't have tech support on line.

Travel trailer shocks

My Travel Trailer has mounts for shocks absorbers and I am contemplating putting some on. I would like some input from
someone who has installed shocks on their trailer and did it make
a difference in handling when towing, items being moved around and
any other improvements, if any, that were noted.
My trailer has standard solid axles.

RE: Electric Tongue Jack

I use a Barker 3000lb model, If I do it again I would buy the
3500 Lb Model just to have a little cushion. I would suggest
you get one with "elecric limit swiches" which stops the jack's
motor when it reaches either extreme position. I had my jack
partially fail because I sometimes ran it to it's limits and
the jack I have had no mechanical over ride clutch so would make
a loud noise and finally it would be somewhat noisy all the time
and I replaced the screw mechanism.
According to the parts list, Barker apparently makes a model with
the electrical limit switches.

RE: Slide Lube

I lubricate my slide mechanisms about twice a year. I use either the
lubricant from CW or a silicone lubricant from NAPA auto parts. I recommend
blowing off the tracks, rack and pinion gears with compressed air,if you
have a compressor, before applying the lubricant.

tongue weight and electric jacks

from time to time TT owners ask about the weight capacity of
electric tongue jacks. I decided to weigh my trailer tongue,
Had TT loaded for a 5-6 week trip with fresh water tank full,
which is located over the front trailer axel.
the weight on the axels was #5950 but the tongue weght was #1150
which was more than I expected. But the capacity of my jack is
#3000 so I feel I had plenty of capacity. Maybe this will help
someone determine the capacity of electric jack needed.
Forgot to note my TT is 27 foot with a maximum weight of
#7500.

RE: RV Cover

I have used an Adco cover for 4 years and it keeps the trailer very clean
and no mildew. I,however, suggest you cover any protruding items with
tape or cloth to prevent rips in the cover. Items such as the awning lock
arm and the anti-billow lock for the slide cover if one is used.
